Accessibility Statement

Jefferson County Education Service District is committed to making its online policy manual usable by everyone, including people who use assistive technology. Our goal is for this site to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as required under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

How policies are published

Each policy is published as a web page so that it works with screen readers, keyboard navigation, text resizing and phones. Each page also offers:

  • Download PDF – a PDF made from the web page and tagged for screen readers, for printing or saving.
  • Original adopted PDF – the district’s record copy. Many of these older files were not created with accessibility in mind and may be difficult to use with assistive technology. The web page contains the same text.

Search covers the full text of every policy and works with the keyboard and screen readers. If JavaScript is turned off, every policy can still be reached through the list of policy sections.

How we check accessibility

Every time the site is updated it is automatically checked for colour contrast, valid HTML, WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules (in a real browser at desktop and phone widths), keyboard access to search and menus, and the structure of every generated PDF. If a check fails, the update is not published. Automated checks cannot find every problem, so the site is also reviewed by people using a keyboard and screen readers.

Known limitations

Policy pages are created automatically from the district’s adopted PDF documents. Forms and tables in a few policies may not convert perfectly; those pages say so and point to the original PDF. If any page is difficult to use, please contact us and we will provide the policy in a format that works for you.

Call the Jefferson County ESD office at (541) 475-2804 and ask for assistance with the online policy manual. Please tell us the policy code (for example, CBA), the page you were using, and the kind of assistive technology you use, if any.
